MelBec Microbiology Ltd is a contract research and microbiology test facility whose staff have many years’ experience and technical expertise in their chosen fields.

We are strongly committed to working closely with our clients to provide rigorous, appropriate test which inevitably leads to meaningful outcomes. This allows our clients to improve or validate the performance of their products, achieve compliance and gain a competitive advantage over their competitors.

Our Services

Medical Microbiology

Clinical microbiology is under the directorship of Professor Valerie Edwards-Jones. Val has many years’ experience in both hospital microbiology departments and academic institutions, latterly Manchester Metropolitan University.

Cosmetics & Personal Care

MelBec Microbiology Ltd has extensive expertise in the field of claim support and product release for the personal care industry. Testing is carried out to assist in compliance with the Cosmetic Regulation and antimicrobial efficacy test to a range of European Standards.

Biocidal Products

We carry out testing to a range of European Standards including BS EN1276, BS EN 1650, BS EN 13697, BS EN 13704, BS EN 1499 & BS EN 1500 to assist in product compliance with the Biocidal Products Regulation (EU) 528/2012.

Contract Research

A fully flexible microbiology contract research service for companies and institutions involved in the development of antimicrobial products and equipment. We can assist with projects, work in partnership with your own laboratories or can offer independent test.

Textiles Testing

Testing to determine the efficacy of antibacterial finishes on textile products. Testing is also carried out to various standard methods and can be carried out using standard services strains or they can be substituted with antibiotic resistant strains eg MRSA and VRE.
