Melbec Microbiology are one of Britain’s leading UKAS accredited testing laboratories (8615), including microbiology testing and contract research, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

Since we launched in 2013, we have worked with customers from every continent to deliver the best service and support for all.

Our staff have many years’ experience and technical expertise in their chosen fields, delivering a plethora of standard and bespoke testing including cosmetics, personal care, biocidal products, wound care, UV testing, virology and vegan testing.

Our services are UKAS accredited, including our recent Vegan accreditation and flexible scope award for biocidal testing.

Testing standards

Melbec offers one of the most comprehensive collections of standards for biocidal products of any UK laboratory.

At Melbec, we offer an extensive range of standard testing, for many industry types.

For biocidal products, some standards are mandatory in order to make biocidal claims about products, whereas for others, the testing can help support additional claims for products.

Vegan testing

We were the first UK lab to be UKAS accredited (8615) for both batch release (ISO 21149 / ISO 16212) and preservative efficacy testing (ISO 11930) only using vegan consumables.

Often within the microbiology testing industry, consumables used for testing are animal-derived, and therefore, whilst the cosmetic products being tested are vegan and cruelty-free, the testing is not.

In 2021, we became the first lab in the UK to be able to offer UKAS accredited (8615) testing for these tests only using only vegan consumables; meaning that not only are the products vegan, so is the testing!

Understanding the organisms, you are looking to test against can help you determine the best strategy for your product.

Knowledge is power and with this in mind Melbec has constructed fact sheets for all the test organisms stated in the standards we test against. We have also created these sheets for other popular organisms and have tried to keep up to date with topical organisms such as hospital required infections and food poisoning organisms.
