[EU] EU Member States Seek One-Year Delay in Deforestation Law Enforcement
EU member states, along with several non-EU countries, traders, and operators, are calling for an additional year to comply with the European Union’s landmark deforestation regulation.
Originally set to take effect sooner, the EU announced in November 2024 that implementation of the law would be postponed by one year to give companies more time to adapt. Now, stakeholders are requesting a further extension—proposing that the rules apply from December 30, 2026 for larger companies and June 30, 2027 for smaller firms.
The regulation aims to ensure that products sold within the EU are not linked to deforested land, marking a significant step in the bloc’s efforts to combat global deforestation and promote sustainable supply chains.
