Meet Melbec: Kamila

Kamila is a leading expert in the UK working on global compliance for cosmetic products. She has been working in regulatory compliance for over 11 years. Her expertise on international cosmetic regulation has been invaluable to our team!

How did you come to work at Melbec Microbiology?

Melbec approached me as they were aware of the work I was doing in Global Compliance and asked if I would be interested in joining their Regulatory team as a Cosmetics Safety Assessor. They offered me the opportunity to do the Safety Assessment of Cosmetics in the EU course at Vrije Universiteit Brussel University – this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down!

What is your daily focus/role at Melbec Microbiology?

My day-to-day work is to assess the safety of cosmetic products through the Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) and to check global compliance. I also review labels for compliance and review claim substantiation. I also write Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and provide labels based on CLP classification. I review ingredients for compliance with national and international regulations and review formulas for US federal and state legislation, with a specific focus on Proposition 65 (for products sold in California), Washington, or New York (1,4-Dioxane).

What has been your favourite/most exciting project to work on throughout your career?

Before I joined Melbec, I had been working for another company on Cosmetic Global Compliance. The majority of my projects were related to specific client requests such as supporting clients with a review of USA federal state legislation on Hemp and Cannabidiol (CBD), toothpaste legislation in the Asia Pacific region, or resolving issues related to Proposition 65. I enjoyed these more challenging, specific, requests as I learned a lot by doing them.

What has been your proudest moment at Melbec Microbiology so far?

Without a doubt, my proudest moment whilst working at Melbec was passing the Safety Assessment of Cosmetic Products in the EU course at VUB University. It was a great challenge, but also extremely rewarding. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen my skills and connect with others in the industry.

What do you love most about working at Melbec Microbiology?

I like the culture, the work/life balance, and the fact everyone is so friendly. The company strives to improve all the time and is happy to invest in their staff. There are lots of very knowledgeable people around who are very happy to share their wisdom and experience! I feel very much that I belong here at Melbec.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to contributing to the growth of Melbec’s Regulatory services, where I can use my experience in the assessment of cosmetic products for the global market. I’m looking forward to building my future with Melbec!
