Meet Melbec: Lewis
Lewis is the liaison between our Regulatory clients and the safety assessor team. He keeps the Regulatory calendar up to scratch, and ensures our customers have a smooth journey through the choppy waters of Cosmetic Regulation.
How did you come to work at Melbec Microbiology?
I’ve worked in a lot of different industries, and I was really intrigued when I saw the advert for Melbec. It was completely different from everything I’d done before – it seemed to present a whole new challenge for me. Then I met the team and felt instantly at home. I knew I’d come to the right place.
What is your daily focus/role at Melbec Microbiology?
My daily focus is booking in our regulatory submissions. This means working with our clients to ensure that the correct documents have been submitted, arranging the regulatory calendar, and being a liaison between the safety assessors and our customers. I work on the marketing side, too, preparing social media posts, blog posts, and graphics that feature on our website and online profiles.
What has been your favourite/most exciting project to work on throughout your career?
I love the journey that we go on with our customers. They might bring a product with us they’d like to position on the market. I can arrange the initial testing it needs such as Stability and Preservative Efficacy Testing (PET). Then we’ll work together to assemble the documents needed to issue a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR). I love building a relationship with our customers and learning about the work they do – it’s a great feeling when a product passes its CPSR and I get to send it back to them!
What has been your proudest moment at Melbec Microbiology so far?
Because my background wasn’t in cosmetic regulation, I learned so much from my first projects. There was one particular project – I can’t say any names, of course – that lasted a few months. Because the CPSR journey was new to our customer, a few problems arose such as missing info, some incorrect documents, questions regarding the formulations, but we worked together to help our customer gather what we needed – and at last everything came together; we managed to produce a batch of Cosmetic Product Safety Reports (CPSR) for them. The customer was so patient and kind as with our requests and was so excited to receive the finished product!
What do you love most about working at Melbec Microbiology?
My initial role centred around preparing quotes and helping the business with sales queries, alongside Regulatory and Marketing work. I loved the Regulatory side, and as that side of the business grew, so did the need for a more full-time Regulatory administrator. The company were happy for me to do this and trusted me to work full-time on this arm of the business. I love that the company really helps you focus on the work that you enjoy most and gives you all the support you need to make it happen.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to watching the Regulatory service really expand this year. We have an amazing team working behind the scenes, with so much knowledge and experience. I can’t wait to meet all the new customers and see what products they’ll bring to us. Though it’s hard to keep up with everchanging cosmetic regulations, I’m really invested and excited to see what happens next.
