Meet Melbec: Liam
In this latest edition of our Meet Melbec series, we’re thrilled to introduce Liam, our Senior Technical Manager. With over three years at Melbec Microbiology, Liam is an invaluable part of the team, bringing deep expertise and a passion for innovation to everything he does.
How did you come to work at Melbec Microbiology?
I was approached by Dawn after the previous Technical Manager left. I’d worked with Dawn at a previous company, and we’d collaborated on lots of different projects over the years, so it felt like a natural move.
What is your daily focus/role at Melbec Microbiology?
I’m the Senior Technical Manager, so I oversee all aspects of complex microbiology testing across our labs. I’m also very client-focused—I spend a lot of time onsite doing hygiene audits and delivering technical training courses. It’s a varied role, which I really enjoy.
What has been your favourite/most exciting project to work on throughout your career?
One of my favourite projects was working on skin microbiome research in my previous role. At the time, we were using quite new technologies like metagenomic sequencing, which made it really exciting. We actually managed to prove something significant with that project, which was a great feeling—even though, like all projects, it eventually came to an end.
What has been your proudest moment at Melbec Microbiology so far?
Setting up our training programme has definitely been a highlight. We’ve had fantastic feedback from every session, and each one has been different and really engaging. I love sharing my knowledge, so seeing people benefit from the training has been really rewarding.
What do you love most about working at Melbec Microbiology?
I really like the team and the culture here. Even though we’ve grown, we still have that small, family-business feel. We’re agile and can move quickly, which is something you don’t always get in larger companies. That flexibility is a big plus.
What are you most looking forward to in the future?
I’m excited to keep developing our training courses and hopefully get involved in more skin microbiome projects. I’m also really interested in exploring how technologies like AI can help us grow and evolve as a business.
