Meet Melbec: Martin

Martin is the Regulatory Manager here at Melbec, leading the way with his expert knowledge of cosmetic regulation in the UK and EU. He joined the industry in 2006 working for a small toiletries company, then went onto become a Technical Innovations Manager for a certified organics toiletries brand. He found his way into cosmetic safety assessment in 2012 and has been working in Regulation ever since!

How did you come to work at Melbec Microbiology?

I saw that Melbec were advertising for a safety assessor, and I was waiting for the right opportunity to change roles. I have known Melbec’s Technical Director, Dawn, since coming into the industry in 2006. When I first entered the cosmetics industry, I was working in Formulation and Manufacturing, and Dawn came to the factory to carry out micro audits. I also did some microbiology awareness training with her. Our paths continued to cross at various trade shows over the years.

What is your daily focus/role at Melbec Microbiology?

My daily focus is assessing the safety of cosmetics product and the creation of Cosmetic Product Safety Reports (CPSR). I check products for Global Compliance, review labels, check claim substantiation, and compile Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

What has been your favourite/most exciting project to work on throughout your career?

My favourite project was building Melbec’s cosmetic database, collaborating with our in-house IT Engineer, George. It’s great to have such an expert on-site who can bring our vision to reality. This means we can have a system that caters for new and existing customer needs and is constantly evolving as regulations and services change.

What has been your proudest moment at Melbec Microbiology so far?

My proudest moments have been supporting the development of the Regulatory team, helping them to grow over the last year. It’s been a pleasure to build a strong, resilient team.

What do you love most about working at Melbec Microbiology?

The culture. It’s the support that we all lend each other. It’s being able to have conversations and share ideas about how the Regulatory service can develop and grow.

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to growing the Regulatory Services within Melbec. With cosmetic regulation changing so often and clients bringing in new products to the market, there are always new things to learn. I’m looking forward to being kept very busy!
