BS EN 14204:2012 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics – Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of mycobactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the veterinary area – Test method and requirements (phase 2, step 1)

EN 14204:2012 is a suspension test for establishing whether a chemical disinfectant or antiseptic has mycobactericidal activity in the veterinary area.

Mycobacteria are often more resistant to chemical agents than vegetative bacteria, as they contain a waxy outer layer which protects them and makes them harder to kill. In addition, as the test is designed for the veterinary area, the standard test temperature is 10oC.

This laboratory test takes into account practical conditions of application of the product including contact time, temperature, test organisms and interfering substances, i.e. conditions which may influence its action in practical situations.
