The CDC Confirms Two Humans Infected with H5N1 in the USA

The CDC has confirmed that two humans have been infected with H5N1 in the USA.

Throughout April and May, two cases of mammal to human transmission of the HPAI A (H5N1) bird flu were confirmed by the CDC, following reports that dairy cows are confirmed infected in nine US states since March. Though the means of the spread is unclear, scientists have found high levels active in milk, leading to concerns that H5N1 presents a risk, albeit a low one, that the virus could infect the general public. Though virologists currently believe the virus’ ability to infect humans is low, those with job or recreational exposure to infected birds or animals are at a greater risk of contracting the virus.

At Melbec, we can test your products to a variety of virology standards. If you’d like to test the efficacy of your disinfectants against H5N1, have a look at our standards page or send us an enquiry via the contact page.
