Updates to EN 14349

The standard EN 14349:2012 has been updated to EN 14349:2025.

EN 14349 is a quantitative surface test for the evaluation of bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the veterinary area on non-porous surfaces without mechanical action. It is a phase 2 step 2 carrier test that evaluates the efficacy of products against bacteria.

Several important changes have been introduced to the EN 14349 standard. These include clarified log reduction requirements for both ready-to-use and diluted products, along with significant technical updates. Notably, Proteus vulgaris has been removed from the list of obligatory test organisms. New defined ranges for test temperatures (5°C–40°C) and contact times (up to 120 minutes) have also been implemented. Additionally, the updated pass criteria now allow minimal recovery of relevant organisms from discs used for active concentrations during testing.

These updates streamline the testing with other recently updated veterinary biocidal testing standards.

Data obtained by testing to the former EN 14349 is still valid; testing does not need to be repeated.
