Meet Melbec: Grace Mellors

As we mentioned early in the year when we posted our first ‘Meet Melbec’ blog post about our Founder and Technical Director, Dawn Mellors, we are working to highlight a member of the Melbec Team every so often in a blog post. For this ‘Meet Melbec’ post, we are focusing on our Operations Manager, Grace Mellors!

How did you come to work at Melbec Microbiology?

I left school at 13 and couldn’t get a job anywhere else so I started washing up and doing odd jobs at Melbec and worked my way up from there. I am now 22, so I have been at Melbec for 8 years.

What is your daily focus/role at Melbec Microbiology?

My daily focus is very much around offering technical support to our clients both over the phone and via email, I am responsible for the link between the lab and the office teams, so I also spend a great deal of time on management and optimisation.

What has been your favourite/most exciting project to work on throughout your career?

The most exciting project I have worked on to date would have to be a recent one around making the lab more sustainable. We have managed to reduce our plastic and glass waste by around 20 tonnes a year.

What has been your proudest moment at Melbec Microbiology so far?

I would say that my proudest moment whilst working at Melbec would have to be the 100-hour weeks we worked during COVID-19 to get everything done and make sure that our customers were happy.

What do you love most about working at Melbec Microbiology?

I like that I can make a difference, especially with the environmental and sustainability side of things.

What are you most looking forward to in the future?

I am looking forward to many things in the future of working at Melbec. I am looking forward to expanding the business and looking at additional services that we can offer our clients as well as eventually taking over the business. On the sustainability side, I am looking forward to working towards being carbon neutral.
